How to Prepare for Your Treatment Appointment

You've had your consultation, you know what's ahead and now it's about giving your skin the best possible foundation going in. A little preparation in the days before your appointment can make a genuine difference to your comfort on the day and the quality of your results. Here's what we recommend...

In the days before

* Avoid alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours prior to your appointment. Alcohol dehydrates the skin, thins the blood and increases sensitivity, none of which are ideal conditions for treatment.

* Limit sun exposure in the lead-up to your visit. Arriving with sunburned or significantly sun-stressed skin can affect what's possible on the day and may require your appointment to be rescheduled. If you're heading outdoors, SPF is essential.

* Pause any actives including retinols, AHAs, BHAs and exfoliating treatments for at least 48 hours beforehand, unless your practitioner has advised otherwise during your consultation. These can heighten skin sensitivity and interfere with certain treatments.

Beyond that, stay well hydrated and aim for a good night's sleep before your appointment. It sounds straightforward, but it genuinely shows in your skin.

Your skincare routine on the day

Keep it simple. Cleanse gently in the morning and avoid anything active, heavily fragranced or barrier-forming. Where your treatment involves the face, arrive with skin as clean and product-free as possible, with no thick creams, oils or makeup. Your practitioner will prepare the skin before beginning, but starting fresh makes the process smoother for everyone. If SPF is part of your morning routine, continue wearing it and just let your practitioner know on arrival so it can be properly removed before your treatment begins.

What to wear

Comfort and practicality go a long way. Choose something loose and easy to change in and out of, particularly if your treatment extends to the neck or body. Avoid jewellery near the treatment area and anything you'd be concerned about getting product on. If you'd like to reapply makeup after your appointment, bring what you need, though depending on your treatment, your practitioner may recommend leaving skin bare for the remainder of the day. It's worth planning for both scenarios.

A few things worth revisiting

Your consultation will have covered the specifics of your treatment, but it's completely normal to have new questions as the appointment draws closer. If anything has come to mind since you were last in, about the process, what to expect afterwards or your at-home care, note them down and bring them with you. We're always happy to talk things through before we begin.

If anything changes

If you're feeling unwell, have started a new medication, experienced unexpected sun exposure or noticed a change in your skin since your consultation, please get in touch before your appointment. It's always better to check in ahead of time. We'd rather rebook than proceed in circumstances that could affect your results or your wellbeing.

You've already done the important groundwork. Now it's just about arriving prepared, comfortable and ready to let us take care of the rest.
